A Lobi couple
A Lobi couple
A Lobi couple created by the famous carver Kilite Noufe, Karite wood, purchased in 2011, interesting how quickly these sculptures acquire an "aged patina" in Africa, a fact that many European collectors do not know or ignore.
Question to the sculptor: "Why is the female sculpture so much bigger than the male?"
Kilite's answer: "The woman is more important than the man!"
Question: "Why do women have portable altars (the vessel on top of the figure´s head) instead of the men?"
Kilite: "So that the woman can go anywhere, the man has to go inside the house to perform certain ceremonies." From an interview in 2011.
