Collection: Guro

The Guro people are an ethnic group that primarily resides in the Ivory Coast, in West Africa. They are known for their artistic skills, particularly in the area of woodcarving, specially mask-making.

Guro masks are usually made of wood and are often carved from a single piece of wood. They are typically painted with bright colors and decorated with beads, shells, and other materials. The masks usually have a human or animal form and are often used in dances and other performances.

One of the most important Guro masks is the "Zamble" mask. This mask is used in the "Zamble" dance, which is performed to honor the spirit of the forest. The Zamble mask is carved in the shape of an antelope and is often decorated with cowrie shells, which represent wealth and prosperity.
