A dagger in the style of Benin, the handle, depicting a Portuguese in janus shape, holding a fire fuse in his hand, made by brass in lost wax manner, the blade forged of iron, posted on a wood stand.
The fuse, which was used to ignite firearms such as cannons or mortars, is an expression of military technology imported from ancient Portugal, which was held in high esteem in a country like the Kingdom of Benin. It was these "modern weapons" that were the first to be able to invade neighboring states and make them vassals of the Kingdom of Benin. Therefore, traditional weapons such as daggers, knives, and spears were also decorated with the emblems of this superior military technology.
