A Senufo Kpelie mask

A Senufo Kpelie mask, Ivory Coast, of oval hollowed form, features delicate deeply concave faces with a protruding mouth showing two rows of teeth, a long slender nose with a broad tip, pierced slit eyes, an overhanging forehead with a protruding ornament in the middle, raised and incised scarification patterns ornament the smooth surface, the face framed by elaborate abstract appendages, atop a panel with two zigzag lines at the sides, the mask pierced through at the rim for attachment; brown patina, traces of age and ritual use.
