A Senufo couple, Ivory Coast, posted on a base, the female sculpture sitting on a finely elaborated high stool, the male standing in a right position with slightly bent legs, both have sturdy legs leading to prominent buttocks, the female figure wearing a small apron on a broad belt, both have a slender torso with a protruding abdomen and a pointed navel, the female has solid tapering breasts and is wearing a necklace with an amulet, both have rounded shoulders leading to angled arms, the opened hands touching the abdomen, the male holding a large knife in his right hand, both wearing one bracelet on each wrists, a slender neck supporting an elongated head with a prominent jaw, a protruding oval mouth showing the gritted teeth, wearing a labret, the curved nose is connected to the forehead and eyebrows, bulging eyes, scarification marks on the cheeks, on the forehead and on the abdomen, outstanding ears, the head of the female sculpture capped by a three-parted coiffure, a crested hairstyle of the male figure; blackened patina with traces of age and ritual use.
