A female Baule sculpture, from the region between Yamoussoukro and Didiévi, Ivory Coast, standing on a thin oval base, the delicate feet and elongated toes supporting muscular legs ending in prominent buttocks, a slender torso with a pointed navel and tapering, drooping breasts, sloping narrow shoulders leading to fragil arms carved close to the body, the elongated hands touching the abdomen, the torso is decorated with scarification marks of varied geometric motifs on the front and the backside, the elongated thick neck supporting an oval head, a slightly open mouth with full lips beneath a flattened broad nose, large heavy lidded eyes, deep cut arched brows, the nose is connected with the eyebrows by three horizontal scarification patterns, pointed cheeks, spherical ears with a prominent tragus, further scarification marks at the corners of the mouth, on the cheeks, on the temples, on the forehead and on the neck, the sculpture is capped by a sophisticated striated domed coiffure with two ponytails at the back of the head; reddish to blackened patina, traces of age and ritual use, the left leg of the sculpture is partly damaged, several cracks.
