A Baule sculpture

A Baule sculpture, Ivory Coast, seated on a two-leg stool, posted on a circular elaborated plinth, the openwork arms with large hands, protecting the abdomen, fine, aged patina.

Although this figure cannot be assigned to the so-called Ascher carver, Sotheby's, 15th May 2009, Lot 157, the gesture of the arms and hands is very similar and seems to have a long, but rare tradition among the Baule carvers.
