A male Tambourin Dan from the Danane region, Ivory coast, also called “slit drum figure” with three elongated rectangular openings and a hollow chamber that resonates when struck often have a human or animal shape, where the drum becomes the body, elongated torso and arms over relatively short legs, also a long neck to touch the drum, head with abstracted facial features, eyes indicated as slits; dark patina with traces of age.
Drums are among the most important musical instruments and Africa. They are also used as sculpture and serve many ceremonial functions, including dance, ritual, storytelling and message transmission; Provenance Mohamed Belo Garba.
